2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Elmore County completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Elmore County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region three with a 3-3 region record. The Panthers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 31-31. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 122-144. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 4A and 227th in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Norman Dean who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 71-50 over the past eleven seasons at Elmore County. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Dean. Coach Dean's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 71-50 (58.7%). The Elmore County Panthers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. Unfortunately, Elmore County finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. Quarterback Will Venable returns for his senior season after completing 88 of 180 passes for 1,329 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior last season. The Panthers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Montgomery Academy on Friday, August 19 at Burt-Haynie Field. Last year the Montgomery Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 3A region three. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Hillcrest Evergreen by a score of 35-7. Elmore County and Montgomery Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 1999 with Montgomery Academy winning by a score of 24-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
